DES MOINES, Iowa -- It was Laura Moklestad's day, and unfortunately it came at the University of Evansville's expense Sunday afternoon at Drake's Cownie Stadium. Moklestad scored both Drake goals, including the game-winner in overtime, to give the Bulldogs a 2-1 win in the Missouri Valley Conference opener for both sides. Drake is now 6-2-3. Evansville is 2-7-1.
Freshman Breanna Beine gave Evansville a 1-0 lead with her team-high third goal of the season, scoring at 25:57 following a deflection off a defender. Drake finally tied the match at the 52:00 mark when Moklestad tallied her second goal of the year. That's the way it stood until the 98:25 mark when Moklestad put a shot into the lower left corner past Evansville goalkeeper Chaviel Harrison.
Drake finished with 26 shots, including 13 on goal. Evansville had 17 shots, led by four from Beine and three each from Stephanie Thompson and Kristen Davis, and put seven shots on goal.
Coach Krista McKendree's Aces are off until October 6, when they host Murray State.
