EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- University of Evansville women’s soccer goalkeeper
Chaviel Harrison has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Goalkeeper of the Week for the period spanning Oct. 24-30.
Recording three consecutive shutout victories, Harrison, a junior, has piloted Evansville to a semifinal appearance in the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament this Friday.
In Evansville’s must-win match with Missouri State last Thursday, Harrison tallied 14 saves and broke her own school record for saves in a season, set in 2010. The Murrieta, Calif. native has made 133 saves this fall, bypassing the previous record of 116. In the overtime victory, Harrison faced a barrage of 26 shots, but kept the Lady Bears off the board, clinching UE’s spot in the quarterfinals.
In the opening round of the tournament versus Drake, Harrison again did not let a ball by her, finishing with six saves in the 1-0 victory. Harrison has not allowed a goal in the last 326:37 minutes of play.
No. 4 seeded Evansville takes on No. 1 seeded Illinois State in the semifinals Friday at 3:30 p.m. CT at Cooper Family Soccer Plex in Springfield, Mo.
