This week’s Vectren Student-Athlete of the Week at the University of Evansville is sophomore women’s soccer player Stephanie Thompson. 

Thompson, a native of Evansville, helped the Purple Aces clinch a spot in the 2011 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament on Thursday, as she netted UE’s game-winning goal just 30 seconds into extra time on a free kick to give Evansville a 1-0 victory over Missouri State.  Thompson’s goal provided UE with the three points necessary to make the tournament field, as if UE had lost to Missouri State, the Purple Aces would not have qualified for the tournament field.
 
Thompson also played a key part in Evansville’s 1-0 victory over fifth-seeded Drake in Sunday’s MVC Tournament quarterfinal match, as she delivered the corner kick which eventually led to the match’s only goal.  For the week, Thompson led Evansville with five shots, all on goal, from her midfield position.
