Nearly 250 tennis matches into her collegiate career, University of Evansville senior Kate Chybowski is close to making history. Chybowski needs one singles victory and three total wins to tie Karen Black's school records in both categories. It was 12 years ago when Black finished her career with 97 singles victories and 173 combined victories. Chybowski goes into Saturday's 1:00 CST match at Butler with a 96-28 record in singles, and a 74-44 record in doubles for a career combined record of 170-72.
"Kate has been able to focus on each match as it comes, which is a real tribute to her," according to head coach Nick Mueller. "Focusing on the task at hand can separate the good players from the great players, and Kate is a great player. We are very lucky to have her here at UE."
Chybowski could eventually set the school record for doubles victories, too. Beth Peyton holds the record with 86 doubles wins, set in 2006.
The Aces also play Sunday at IUPUI at 3:00, giving Chybowski the opportunity to come home with two school records this weekend. The Aces take a 5-2 dual match record into Saturday's match.
"We face two teams this weekend that will be ready for the challenge," Mueller points out. "Butler and IUPUI are solid programs and we will get their best efforts."
