Aces Make It 7 Out Of Last 9, 70-62

The University of Evansville men’s basketball team won for the seventh time in the last nine games, beating Northern Iowa 70-62 Tuesday at Roberts Stadium. The win marks the first time the Aces have won five consecutive home games against Missouri Valley Conference teams since 1997-98.

UE is now 14-10 overall and 8-6 in the MVC, good for fourth place. UNI is 18-8 and still in third place with a 9-5 league record.

The Panthers were off to an 8-2 lead early in the game, but a layup by senior Clint Hopf at 11:15 put the Aces ahead 16-15, the first UE lead since the game opened at 2-0. After UNI answered with a layup of its own at 10:47, the Aces held the Panthers to just seven points in the last ten minutes of the half to take a 34-24 lead into halftime.

The Aces led by as many as 16 points at 42-26 in the second half, but the Panthers were able to get within four to cut the Aces’ lead to 58-54 with 1:38 remaining in the game. UE made 11 free throws in the final minutes to secure the 70-62 win.

Sophomore Ned Cox led the Aces with a season-high 16 points. Senior Kavon Lacey tied his season-high with four field goals and added 11 points of his own. Sophomore Lewis Jones posted 
a team-high seven rebounds on the night while sophomore Colt Ryan grabbed six boards.

Sophomore Anthony James tallied 21 points for the Panthers. James and sophomore Austin Pehl led the team with five rebounds.

The Aces will face the Bradley Braves in Peoria, Ill., on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 7:05 CST.
