CHARLESTON, Ill. – A goal in the opening minute of play was all the University of Evansville women’s soccer team needed Saturday afternoon as the Aces won, 1-0, over host Eastern Illinois in an exhibition match.
Sophomore Stephanie Thompson knocked in the lone goal of the day just 34 seconds into the contest on a shot that sailed from the top right corner of the goal box. Junior Olivia Robinson recorded the assist.
Despite the Panthers having a 15-13 shot advantage, including six on goal, junior Chaviel Harrison and the Aces’ defense held EIU off the board. Harrison made six saves on the day.
Finished with exhibition play, Evansville opens the 2011 regular season next Friday, Aug. 19 at Indiana University. The match is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. CT.
