GAME-WINNER
Sophomore forward Stephanie Thompson piloted the Purple Aces to their first victory of the 2011 season with her game-winning goal in the 89th minute over Valparaiso. With the score tied, 0-0, Thompson prevented overtime when she found the back of the net on a tight angled shot, 20 yards out. On the week, the Evansville, Ind. native led the Aces with five shots.
CHAVIEL’S SHUTTIE
Junior goalkeeper Chaviel Harrison played all 180:00 minutes in the net last week, tallying 14 saves and her third career shutout. Harrison was impassable Sunday as she recorded 10 saves in Evansville’s, 1-0, shutout at Valparaiso, while facing a barrage of 19 shots. Against Central Michigan, Harrison tallied four saves.
NICE SHOT!
A sophomore transfer from Auburn University, Tasha Prentice gave Evansville the lead Friday night versus Central Michigan with her long eighth minute goal. The perfectly placed shot from 36 yards out marked her first of the season. Prentice’s ball sailed high from outside the left side of the box and just over the reach of the goalkeeper for a 1-0 lead, but the Aces were unable to hold it, falling 3-1. In UE’s 1-0 victory over Valparaiso, Prentice got off two shots, totaling four on the week.
WEEK AHEAD
The Aces have a busy week ahead, taking on Xavier, SEMO, and Morehead State. In both of UE’s last meetings with Xavier and SEMO, UE was victorious, as Evansville topped Xavier in 2010, 2-0, and SEMO, 1-0, in the 2009 season-opener. The Aces were edged, 2-1, on the road at Morehead State in 2009.
KEEP ROLLING
Coming off Sunday’s victory over Valparaiso, Evansville has a chance to earn consecutive wins Wednesday at Xavier for the first time since the 2009 season when UE went on a three-game win-streak from Sept. 27-Oct. 2.
