EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville women’s soccer team made a spectacular comeback Friday night versus the visiting Miami of Ohio RedHawks, scoring three unanswered goals in the second half. However, it was not enough for the victory, as Miami edged the Purple Aces, 4-3, at UE’s Arad McCutchan Stadium. With the loss, Evansville falls to 1-6-3 on the season as the RedHawks improve to 4-2-0.

Miami found the net three times in the opening period, as Giselle Mangal, Jess Kodiak, and Syndey Busch each tallied a goal. The RedHawks held a 10-4 shot advantage in that half.

Things looked grim at the 73:00 minute mark when Kodiak scored her second goal of the night and gave the RedHawks a commanding 4-0 lead.

However, the Aces turned the ship around in the remaining minutes, sparked by sophomore Tasha Prentice. Prentice blasted a shot from the right side of the box to the back left corner of the net past goalkeeper Allison Norenberg at the 78:30 mark.

In the 83rd minute, Prentice made a long pass up the field to Kaitlin Robinett who scored the goal on the breakaway, cutting Miami’s lead in half.

With under three minutes remaining, the Aces made it a one-goal game when Robinett crossed a pass, right to left, to sophomore Stephanie Thompson at the top of the box, tallying her third goal of the season.

Unfortunately, the RedHawks ran the clock out, preserving the 4-3 score in the final minutes.

UE goalkeeper Chaviel Harrison recorded seven saves on the night, while Norenberg tallied five.

Thompson and Prentice led UE with three shots apiece, while sophomore Breana Beine had two, both on goal.

The Aces are back in action Sunday when they host UT-Martin for a 1:00 p.m. CT start at Arad McCutchan Stadium.
