University of Evansville sophomore cross country runner Kelby Jenkins has been named this week's Vectren Student-Athlete of the Week, after placing third overall at the 2011 Saluki Invitational to help the UE women's cross country team to a second-place team finish.
Jenkins placed third overall, and second among collegiate runners, with a time of 19:07.1 in the muddy and wet 5-K event on Saturday afternoon in Carbondale, Illinois. She finished less than three seconds behind Southern Illinois' Lacey Gibson for the collegiate individual title, while posting her best individual finish as a Purple Ace. Jenkins' third-place finish helped fuel the UE women's cross country team to a second-place team finish at the meet, just 22 points behind host and Missouri Valley Conference rival Southern Illinois.
Jenkins and the Purple Aces will return to action this week, as the team will travel to Louisville, Kentucky to take part in the Greater Louisville Classic. The meet is set to begin at 9 am eastern time.
