Women’s Soccer Slips To Morehead State, 3-1

MOREHEAD, Ky. – With all scoring action occurring in the second half, the University of Evansville women’s soccer team fell to Morehead State, 3-1, Sunday afternoon in a shot-heavy match. The Eagles outshot the Aces, 26-10 and 14-5 on goal. With the loss, Evansville now holds a 1-5-1 record, while MSU improved to 3-2-0.
Junior goalkeeper Chaviel Harrison had a busy day in the net, recording 10 saves, while holding the Eagles off the scoreboard in the first half, despite going up against 11 shots.
However, Morehead State broke the, 0-0, tie in the 50th minute of play when Devan Jordan fired a shot from 18 yards away on a pass from Brittany Kiracofe.
An own goal in the 75th minute put the Eagles up 2-0 when Elizabeth Tresnak took a shot from the left wing, but the ball was misplayed by the Evansville defense and the ball crossed the goal line.
Just under the 83rd minute mark, Tresnak found the back of the net on a pass from Jillian Birchmeier after a blocked shot.
Down 3-0, the Aces answered with four minutes to go in the match when Taylor Brand headed in a corner kick from sophomore Stephanie Thompson. Brand’s goal marked her first of the season.
Evansville earned a 6-4 corner kick advantage in the match. Sophomore Breana Beine led the Aces with five shots, including two on goal.
The Aces are back in action Friday when they compete in the Northern Arizona University Tournament, taking on Lamar at 6:00 p.m. CT. UE will also take on the host team on Sunday at 3:00 p.m.
