VALLEY RELEASE
ST. LOUIS – Sophomore
Tatiana Pagan became the fifth University of Evansville women’s soccer player to earn Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week honors this season, as she was named the MVC Defensive Player of the Week in an announcement by the league office Tuesday afternoon.
Pagan played a key role in UE’s 2-0 win over Northern Iowa Saturday at Arad McCutchan Stadium, dishing out an assist on the offensive side of the ball and helping the Evansville defensive unit shutout the Panthers and limit them to just one shot on goal.
The sophomore defender got her name on the score sheet for the first time this season in the match’s 54th minute, when she played a through ball past the final UNI defender to the feet of
Kayla Smith, who finished from close range to give the Aces a 1-0 lead. Defensively, Pagan and the rest of UE’s backfield held Northern Iowa to just one shot on goal and did not allow a Panther shot to reach frame during the entire second half.
Pagan and the Aces will return to the pitch Wednesday, Oct. 17, when they host Indiana State at 4 p.m. for a key Valley contest. Evansville is currently 2-1-1 in league play and tied for second place in the conference standings with just two matches remaining.
