VALLEY RELEASE
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Evansville freshman goalkeeper
Simone Busby was named the Missouri Valley Conference Goalkeeper of the Week for her efforts in Evansville’s 0-0 draw with Missouri State on Sunday, as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.
Busby posted nine saves in the scoreless draw, including four in the second half, to preserve a tie for the Purple Aces and keep them unbeaten in conference play. The shutout was the second for Busby this season, as she is now 1-0-3 in her first five collegiate starts and leads the Valley with a 0.37 goals against average and .935 save percentage.
The freshman goalkeeper is the third Evansville player to earn MVC Player of the Week honors in the last two weeks, as
Taylor Brand and
Abby Springer were named the MVC Defensive Player of the Week and Offensive Player of the Week last Tuesday.
UE will return to the pitch Sunday, Oct. 7, when it continues league play at Drake. The Aces and Bulldogs, who are currently in a three-way tie atop the league standings, are slated for a 1 p.m. kickoff from the Cownie Soccer Complex in Des Moines, Iowa.
