ST. LOUIS – University of Evansville junior
Kelby Jenkins was named to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Team, the league announced on Tuesday.
Jenkins had a stellar season in 2012, winning four events with her worst finish being seventh. She set a personal record over the weekend at the MVC Championships as her time of 17:38 tied her for the second-best race in UE history and was just eight seconds off of the school record.
Aside from her work on the course, Jenkins has gotten the job done in the classroom, earning a perfect 4.00 GPA majoring in accounting.
The junior won both home events for the Aces along with running four times under 18 minutes. UE only had two races in that time bracket prior to this season.
Jenkins’ honor marks the sixth time a UE runner has made the MVC Scholar Athlete Team and she is just the second female to do so for the Aces (Andrea Sonnenschein in 2007). UE Hall of Fame Nick Waninger won the honor on three occasions.
