BOX SCORE

DES MOINES, Iowa –
The University of Evansville women’s soccer team suffered its first loss in league play Sunday afternoon in Des Moines, Iowa, as host Drake scored the match’s lone goal just under five minutes into overtime for a 1-0 victory.

The Aces (2-7-3, 1-1-1 MVC) contained Drake’s (11-3-1, 2-0-1 MVC) offense, holding DU to just four shots on goal, but it was Laura Moklestad’s goal in the 95th minute that gave the Bulldogs a win and propelled them past UE in the MVC standings.

The two sides combined for just eight shots in the opening half, with only the Bulldogs putting any attempts on goal.  UE earned a pair of corner kicks early in the opening half, but Drake quickly answered with the first two shots, as Ashlie Stokes tested Evansville goalkeeper Simone Busby with a pair of shots in the 15th and 16th minutes.

UE’s Abby Springer and Stephanie Thompson each misfired on shots on shots in the final 10 minutes on the half and Stokes once again put a shot on goal that was stopped by Busby, as the contest remained scoreless after 45 minutes.

The Aces’ offense gained momentum in the second half, as UE outshot Drake, 6-5, and put four shots on goal.  Tatiana Pagan put a shot on goal in the early stages of the half and DU goalkeeper Kalena Litch was forced to make a pair of saves in the 66th and 68th minutes on shots by Olivia Robinson and Kristen Davis.

Both teams failed to convert on corner kicks late in regulation and Litch turned away a shot by Springer in the 85th minute to keep the game knotted at 0-0 and force overtime.

Drake controlled much of the action in the extra stanza and Moklestad’s game-winner came just under five minutes into the overtime period.  Moklestad tallied her fourth goal of the season, after finishing a pass from Stokes following a free kick.

Springer led Evansville offensively with three shots and Pagan added a pair.  Busby was saddled with her first loss of the year, as she made three saves and fell to 1-1-3 on the season.

Evansville will continue Valley play next Saturday at 1 p.m., when they host Northern Iowa at Arad McCutchan Stadium.
