EVANSVILLE, Ind. – With its regular season opener in the rearview mirror, the University of Evansville women’s soccer team will open up the home portion of its schedule on Friday, playing host to Saint Louis University at 4:30 p.m. at Arad McCutchan Stadium.
Fans are reminded that the women’s game against SLU and the men’s contest against Lipscomb will each be available for free video streaming on AcesTV.
Evansville opened up its season on the road last weekend, falling by a 3-0 margin to Western Kentucky on Saturday evening in Bowling Green. The Aces gave up an early goal to Amanda Buechel before she struck again early in the second period to give the Hilltoppers the win. A match at Central Michigan was set to take place on Sunday afternoon, however, inclement weather forced the cancellation of the game in Mount Pleasant, Mich. In the opener, freshman Kayla Smith notched three shots with two coming on goal while Preseason MVC All-Conference player
Stephanie Thompson also registered three shots.
A pair of freshmen have made their presence known in their inaugural campaigns at the University of Evansville. Indianapolis native
Abby Springer scored three goals in the preseason helping UE to a perfect 2-0 exhibition mark. In the win over Austin Peay, the freshman scored both goals. Her strong play continued into the other exhibition game against Morehead State where her third goal gave UE a 1-0 lead. Fellow frosh
Kayla Smith began her UE career with three shots at Western Kentucky with two being on goal.
This will mark the third game of the season for the Billikens as they opened up the season with a 3-1 loss on the road at the University of Mississippi before playing to a 0-0 tie against Southeast Missouri State on Sunday. The squads failed to score in double overtime. In exhibition play, Saint Louis picked up a 2-0 victory over Mississippi State in their lone preseason contest on August 11.
Fans will be treated to some extra soccer action this weekend as the Aces will host their first regular-season doubleheader in almost two years as the women host Saint Louis prior to the men opening their season up against Lipscomb. The last doubleheader for UE came in 2010 as the women played Illinois State and the men took on Creighton. The squads were 0-2 in those games, which took place on October 16, 2010.
Another treat for fans who cannot make it to Arad McCutchan Stadium on Friday evening will be that AcesTV will offer both ends of the doubleheader free of charge to give fans a chance to see what they have to offer. A full AcesTV schedule is available on www.GoPurpleAces.com
Following the home opener, UE will take to the road for the next three matches, beginning on Sunday at Murray State. Next weekend, the Aces will take on Belmont before traveling to Purdue on September 2.
