BOX SCORE

EVANSVILLE, Ind. –
Stephanie Thompson scored a late goal for the University of Evansville, but a pair of tallies early in the second half lifted Eastern Illinois to a 2-1 win over the Aces Friday afternoon at Arad McCutchan Stadium.

In an evenly played first half, the Purple Aces (1-5-0) outshot the Panthers (2-4-0), 5-3, and earned three corner kicks, while holding EIU without an attempt.

Lauren Tiernan nearly got Evansville on the board in the 12th minute, but her shot rolled just wide of the left post after sneaking by Eastern Illinois keeper Jessica Taldone.

The Panthers best chance in the opening stanza came in the 32nd, when a header by Kristin Germann caromed off the crossbar and the game remained scoreless at the half.

Eastern Illinois took a 1-0 lead early in the first half, as Madison Carter netted her first-career goal in the 55th minute.  On EIU’s first set piece opportunity of the match, Allie Lakie sent a corner kick service to the back post, finding Carter, who finished the chance inside the post.

The Panthers tacked on a second goal just over 10 minutes later, as Brooke Sill converted on a breakaway opportunity to double the EIU advantage.

Evansville halved the lead in the 84th minute, when Thompson buried a shot from 20 yards out for her first goal of the season.  The Purple Aces mounted an offensive attack late in the contest, outshooting EIU 10-2 in the second half, but could not find the equalizer.

Thompson led UE offensively with seven shots, including two on goal.  Tiernan added three shots and Kayla Smith recorded two.

Chaviel Harrison recorded a save in 71:07 between the posts, while freshman Simon Busby played the final 18:53 for the Aces.

Evansville will return to the pitch Sunday, Aug. 9, when it travels to Indianapolis, Ind., to take on in-state foe IPFW.  Kickoff is slated for Noon.
