Gaby Fifer picked up a point for UE with a win at No. 6 singles

Tennis Falls to Eastern Illinois, 4-3

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. –
The University of Evansville tennis team posted a trio of victories in singles competition, but were swept in doubles play, as Eastern Illinois earned a 4-3 victory over the Purple Aces Friday evening at the Wabash Valley Tennis Club in Terre Haute, Ind.
 
Natasha James grabbed a point for UE at No. 2 singles, defeating EIU’s Sephora Boulbahaiem in three sets (7-5, 4-6, 10-8).  Evansville also picked up points from Marketa Trousilova at No. 3 singles and Gaby Fifer at No. 6 singles.  Trousilova topped Hannah Kimbrough (6-3, 6-2), while Fifer also notched a straight-set victory, defeating Kristen Laird (7-5, 6-2).
 
In other singles flights, the Panthers picked up wins from Janelle Prisner, Ali Foster and Jennifer Kim.  Prisner claimed a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Mina Milovic, Foster defeated Marina Moreno (6-4, 6-3) and UE’s Emily Richardson fell to Kim in straight sets (6-3, 6-2).
 
Eastern Illinois earned victories in all three doubles flights, as the team of Prisner and Merritt Whitley defeated UE’s James and Trousilova, 8-7(4) at No. 1 doubles, Boulbahaiem and Kimbrough topped the Aces’ Fifer and Richardson, 8-4, at No. 2 doubles and EIU’s Foster and Laird posted an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles over Evansville’s team of Moreno and Kelsey Costales.
 
With the loss, the Aces fell to 1-1 in dual meets and will return to action tomorrow, Jan. 26, when they face Lipscomb at the Whitworth Racquet Club in Nashville, Tenn.  Matches are slated to begin at 7 p.m.
