TERRE HAUTE, Ind. –
The University of Evansville women's soccer team suffered its first defeat since Sept. 4, Wednesday night in Terre Haute, Ind., as Indiana State defeated the Purple Aces, 1-0, in Missouri Valley Conference play.

Evansville (9-3-2, 2-1-1 MVC) applied pressure early, but Indiana State (6-8-0, 1-2-0 MVC) dominated much of the match, as the Sycamores outshot the Aces, 15-2, and held UE to just one shot on goal, which came in the 36th minute.

Indiana State (6-8-0, 1-2-0 MVC) took control of the first half about 15 minutes into the contest, as the Sycamores held possession for a majority of the final 30 minutes of the opening stanza.  ISU tallied the lone goal in the 38th minute, when Abby Reed took advantage of a miscue by Evansville goalkeeper Simone Busby.  After a cross from Kylie Sumner slipped through the hands of Busby, Reed was there to finish the chance with a shot inside the back post.

Indiana State posted a 10-2 shot advantage in the first half and led 1-0 heading into the locker room.  The Sycamores put five of their 10 shots on frame, while the Aces tested ISU goalkeeper Brittany San Roman just once in the initial 45 minutes.

Indiana State continued to keep UE on its heels in the second half, as the Sycamores held Evansville without a shot over the final 45 minutes, while taking five of their own.  The Aces pushed forward late in the match, but were unable to break through the ISU back line, as Indiana State held on for its first MVC win and handed UE its first loss in conference play.

Junior Taylor Brand and freshman Bronwyn Boswell accounted for Evansville's only two shots of the match, with Brand putting the lone shot on goal.  In goal, Busby made seven saves in the loss, with four of them coming in the first half.

ISU's Kate Johnson led all players with four shots and three shots on goal and San Roman posted the shutout by making one save.

Evansville will look to rebound, when it travels to Normal, Ill., Sunday, Oct. 20, for a 1 p.m. match with Illinois State.
