Day One Results
ST. LOUIS – Day one of the Missouri Valley Conference Women's Individual Tennis Championships are in the books at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis.
The Purple Aces had a successful day, beginning at flight one with
Natasha James. The junior won in both singles and doubles as she swept past Klavdija Rebol of Drake, 6-3, 6-3. Teamed with
Marketa Trousilova in doubles, James helped them advance with an 8-6 win over Adele Henke and Ashley Thai of Bradley.
Joining James in the win column for the Aces was
Marina Moreno, who fought back to defeat Saluki Meagan Monaghan, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4. She teamed with
Mina Milovic in flight two doubles, falling by an 8-3 final to the team of Emmie Marx and Kadi Ilves of Illinois State.
Milovic went 1-1 in singles, falling in her first matchup against Krissy Lankelma (UNI) before defeating Sarah Rodefeld of Bradley, 2-6, 6-2, 10-8, in the consolation round.
Kelsey Costales also split her opening-day efforts. She was defeated by Kadi Ilves to start the day, but grabbed a decisive win over Carly Miles, 6-3, 6-3.
Trousilova played in flight two singles where she lost to Anita Lee of SIU, 6-1, 6-1.
Up next for James will be a matchup against Rebecca Pedrazzi of Wichita State while Trousilova will face Nell Boyd of Drake in the 5
th-place matchup in flight two. Moreno advanced in the third group and is set up to compete against Jieke Stroobant of UNI while Minovic and Costales will each play in the fifth place game in their respective flights.
Doubles play will see James and Trousilova square off against Blasco Fernandez and Pedrazzi of the Shockers. Moreno and Milovic take on Carly Miles and Sarah Rodefeld of the Braves for a chance to play in the flight two doubles fifth place match.
