DES MOINES, Iowa – After finishing in eighth place at Saturday's Missouri Valley Conference Championship, University of Evansville senior runner
Kelby Jenkins was named to the All-Conference First Team for the second season in a row.
Last year, Jenkins became the first female runner at UE to earn the honor and continued her storied career by earning the accolade for a second time.
Despite a tough situation in yesterday's race that saw the whole Aces team get boxed in at the start, Jenkins made her way through the field to finish in the top eight for the second season in a row. Last year, she came home in fourth place.
She is just the second runner in program history, male or female, to earn All-Conference nods in the MVC. The other was UE Hall of Famer Nick Waninger, who made the team each season from 2004 through 2006.
Jenkins completed one of the top seasons for a Purple Aces student-athlete, regardless of sport. In seven races, Jenkins posted four victories, two seconds and one eighth place finish. Even more impressive were her 5K times. In six events at that distance, Jenkins finished below 18 minutes each and every time out.
On Nov. 15, Jenkins and her teammates make the trek from Indiana to Madison, Wisc. for the NCAA District Championship.
