EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Fresh off of its second MVC Athlete of the Week honor in a row, the Purple Aces women’s tennis travels to Butler for a Saturday match at 4 p.m. CT.
In last weekend’s home opener, the Aces downed Austin Peay by a final of 5-2 at the Tri-State Athletic Club. Evansville opened up with a pair of doubles victories as
Marketa Trousilova and
Natasha James along with the duo of
Gaby Fifer and
Emily Richardson earned the wins.
Four out of six singles matches went the Aces way, led by James in the top flight and Trousilova in flight three. Fifer won at No. 5 while Richardson earned the victory in the sixth.
With her perfect week, James was named the MVC Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week, following in the footsteps of Trousilova, who garnered the honor a week prior. Both have gotten off to strong starts this spring as James is 4-1 in singles while Trousilova is a perfect 5-0. The pair have been victorious in three out of five doubles matchups.
Butler begins the weekend with a mark of 2-7 and face Middle Tennessee State at home on Friday night. Of the Bulldogs’ seven losses, four have been by a final of 7-0 while the other three were by a 6-1 final.
The wins for Butler came in the opener over Dayton (5-2) and against Morehead State (4-3). Brittany Farmer leads Butler in both singles and doubles action. Farmer, along with partner Stephanie McLoughlin, are 7-3 in doubles while Farmer is 6-5 on her own. Caroline Hedrick also has a winning mark at 9-8.
Next week, Evansville has three matches, beginning with a trip to Murray State on Feb. 20 before a pair of home matches next weekend against SIU Edwardsville and UT-Martin.
