EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Reigning Missouri Valley Conference Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week
Marketa Trousilova and the Purple Aces women’s tennis team will open up their home slate on Saturday, playing host to Austin Peay at 7 p.m.
Saturday’s match will take place at Tri-State Athletic Club in Evansville.
Last weekend, the Aces fell in a pair of road contests, including a 5-2 defeat at IPFW and a 6-1 loss at Bowling Green. In only her second weekend of play at UE, Trousilova garnered MVC Athlete of the Week honors as she has started the season with a perfect 4-0 mark in singles action.
Along with doubles partner
Natasha James, Trousilova has also posted exceptional performances in doubles play, going 2-2 thus far. James has registered a nice start to the season, winning three of her first four singles outings. A third sophomore,
Gaby Fifer, has a .500 singles mark through two weeks of play, going 2-2.
Austin Peay has played in just one spring tournament thus far, dropping a 7-0 decision at Samford. The Governors will also be in action tonight at Chattanooga prior to making the drive to Evansville.
Last season, the squads met in Clarksville, Tenn. as the Aces came away with a hard-fought 4-3 victory. UE earned the doubles point by taking two out of three matches prior to splitting six singles flights. James, Fifer and graduated senior Aleks Dzakula earned singles triumphs.
Following their home opener, the Aces will take to the road to face Butler next weekend. Evansville travels to Indianapolis next Saturday, February 16, for a 4 p.m. CT matchup.
