EVANSVILLE, Ind. – In a crosstown matchup on Wednesday, it was the University of Evansville women’s tennis team taking down USI by a final of 8-1 at the USI Tennis Courts.
The Aces swept doubles play while winning five out of the six singles matches. Top doubles saw
Natasha James and
Marketa Trousilova sweep Lindsey White and Elizabeth Wilm, 8-0 while
Emily Richardson and
Kelsey Costales earned an 8-3 triumph over Elizabeth Skinner and Morgan Coquerille. No. 3 doubles saw
Gaby Fifer and
Marina Moreno top Shannon Joyce and Ellena Stumpf, 8-4.
Trousilova got her first shot at top singles and defeated Wilm, 6-1, 6-0. Fellow newcomer Moreno topped White in the second slot, 6-2, 6-3.
Mina Milovic earned a hard-fought win in the third flight as she defeated Coquerille, 4-6, 6-1, 10-3.
Fifer got past Alyssa Hoover in the fourth group, 6-1, 6-1 while Costales got the win over Logan Ackerman, 6-1, 6-0 in flight six. Freshman Rachel Gillespie saw action in the fifth flight, but fell to Skinner by finals of 4-6, 6-2, 10-2.
This weekend, the Aces wrap up the regular season with a pair of home matches. Wichita State comes to town for a 1 p.m. match on Saturday before UE takes on Creighton beginning at 10 a.m. Sunday. Both matches are slated to be played at Wesselman Park.
