EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Wichita State improved to a perfect 6-0 in Missouri Valley Conference play as they picked up a 7-0 win over the University of Evansville women’s tennis team on Saturday afternoon at Wesselman Park.
With the loss, the Aces fell to 9-10 on the season and 2-4 entering Sunday’s regular-season finale against Creighton.
Natasha James and
Marketa Trousilova took the win in No. 1 singles as they defeated Lucia Kovalova and Julia Schiller by an 8-3 final. The Shockers took over at that point as Rebecca Pedrazzi and Carla Venticinque downed
Emily Richardson and
Kelsey Costales, 8-1, before Montse Fernandez and Satjaporn Mahajaroenkul defeated
Gaby Fifer and
Marina Moreno, 8-2.
Wichita State was also strong in singles, beginning in the top group as Pedrazzi defeated James, 6-4, 7-5. Schiller handed Trousilova her first MVC singles lost as she won by scores of 7-6 and 6-4.
Kovalova topped Moreno by identical 6-3 scores in flight three and Fernandez picked up the victory over
Mina Milovic, 6-4, 6-1. In flight five, Mahajaroenkul swept past Richardson, 6-0, 6-0 and Venticinque defeated Fifer in the sixth slot, 6-1, 6-4.
Evansville will look to pick up a win on Sunday as they play host to the Bluejays at 10 a.m. on Sunday morning at Wesselman Park.
