DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Evansville women's soccer team closed its preseason slate with a 2-1 loss at Wright State Sunday afternoon in Dayton, Ohio. Freshman Emily Griebel scored the lone goal for the Purple Aces in the 74th minute.

Wright State took the early lead in the 30th minute, when Emilie Fillion scored on a pass from Ashley Gogolin to put the Raiders up 1-0.

Evansville outshot WSU, 7-6, over the first 45 minutes, but WSU earned four first-half corner kicks and led at the break.

Mackenzie Hamilton doubled Wright State's lead in the 70th minute, scoring the eventual game-winner on an assist from Natalie Sedlock.

Griebel pulled the Aces within a goal by finding the back of the net just under four minutes later by finishing a pass from junior Tatiana Pagan, but the Raiders would hold on for a 2-1 victory.

In goal, sophomore Simone Busby racked up seven saves, while Brooke McCurdy and Halle Pyle each tallied a save each for WSU.

Sophomores Kayla Smith and Abby Springer each took a team-high three shots for UE. Fillion and Hamilton fired three shots apiece for Wright State to lead the Raiders.

The Aces will open the regular season Friday, Aug. 23, when they host Murray State at Arad McCutchan Stadium at 6 p.m.
