EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville women's soccer got three goals from three different players in a 3-0 victory over visiting UT Martin Friday night at Arad McCutchan Stadium to improve to 2-1-0.

Senior Stephanie Thompson opened the scoring for Evansville (2-1-0) by scoring the eventual game-winner for the Aces in the 12th minute and UE sealed the win with a pair of second-half goals by freshman Emily Griebel and sophomore Kayla Smith.

Sophomore goalkeeper Simone Busby posted her first shutout of the year by making three saves in the victory.

"One of the goals that we talked about before the match was limiting their chances, and I thought we did a very good job of that," head coach Krista McKendree said.  "Tonight, I thought we started the game with a quick tempo, which is something we didn't do in our first two matches, and that really set the tone from the beginning."

Evansville controlled the tempo for most of the match and applied pressure early, creating a pair of scoring chances in the first 10 minutes of the match, before Thompson put the Aces in front, 1-0, with her goal in the 12th minute.  The senior midfielder was able to collect a loose ball in the top, left side of the 18-yard box, before dribbling in and beating UT Martin keeper Mariah Klenke with a shot inside the near post.

UE outshout the Skyhawks, 9-3, in the first half and forced Klenke to make four first-half saves.

Evansville once again forced the issue in the second half and doubled its lead on a brilliant goal by Griebel in the 74th minute.  The Peoria, Ill., native dribbled just inside the top, right corner of the box, before blasting a shot that caromed off the post, into the top, left corner of the goal.

The Aces got one more immaculate strike from Smith in the 82nd minute to put the game away, as the sophomore forward bent a shot from 25 yards out into the upper, right corner of the goal, just over the outstretched hands of Klenke to make the final score, 3-0.

"Our last two goals are something that you never know if you are going to get not necessarily in a game, but in a season," McKendree said.  "We will certainly take two in one game and they were both very good finishes."

Smith led UE with four shots, putting two on goal, while Thompson attempted three shots and three other Evansville players fired two shots each.

Alyssa Curtis took a team-high three shots for UT Martin and six other players combined for the other six Skyhawk attempts.  Defensively, Klenke finished the contest with seven saves.

"I think our offensive will continue to be a strength of our team, as long as we can play at this tempo," McKendree said.  "Tonight we played with an attacking mindset the entire game and if we can do that, we should be able to take quite a few shots and hopefully put a lot of them on goal as well."

Evansville will be back in action Wednesday, Sept. 4, when it travels to Cincinnati, Ohio for a 6 p.m. match with host Xavier.
