EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Senior
Lauren Tiernan took advantage of a loose ball inside the 18-yard box in the 96th minute, burying a shot from 12 yards out to give the University of Evansville women's soccer team a 1-0 win over visiting IUPUI Friday night at Arad McCutchan Stadium.
Evansville (3-2-0) controlled the tempo for the majority of the match, outshooting IUPUI (2-2-1), 27-6. The Aces put nine shots on goal, before Tiernan's game-winner in the first overtime period and allowed the Jaguars to put only two shots on frame.
UE fired 11 shots in the opening 45 minutes, forcing IUPUI goalkeeper Giselle Guzman to make five first-half saves. Guzman kept the game scoreless with a pair of excellent saves in the 40 th minute, saving an initial shot from sophomore

Evansville continued to apply pressure in the second half, attempting 13 shots to the Jaguars' three. The Aces saw several shots sail just over the crossbar or wide of the goal, and put four shots on goal, but could not get an attempt past Guzman.
IUPUI nearly capitalized on a counter late the second half, before junior center back
Taylor Brand made a sliding tackle inside the box to break up the Jaguars' best scoring attempt with just over 18 minutes left to play in regulation.
In the overtime stanza, sophomore
Kayla Smith saw a potential game-winning shot miss just high, but Tiernan would end the game under five minutes later, after a ball came free on the box and she put it away from the center of the box.
Thompson led UE's offensive attack with six shots and three shots on goal, while Springer and freshman
Bronwyn Boswell tallied five shots each. Sophomore goalkeeper
Simone Busby recorded her second clean sheet of the year, turning away both shots that she faced.
Evansville will be on the road for its next match Sunday at 1 p.m., when it travels to St. Louis to take on the Billikens.
