ST. LOUIS – A pair of goals early in the first half would be the only two of the match Sunday afternoon in St. Louis, as the University of Evansville played the host Billikens to a 1-1 tie.

Stephanie Thompson netted the goal for Evansville (3-2-1) in the 12th minute, just over two and a half minutes after St. Louis (1-4-1) took the early lead. Sophomore goalkeeper
Simone Busby made six saves and Thompson led the Aces' offensive with five shots and four shots on goal.

St. Louis took an early lead by converting on a set piece opportunity in the ninth minute. Maddy Bush scored from close range for her first goal of the season, following a corner kick off the foot of Jessie Jarrett that put the Billikens up 1-0.

Evansville answered quickly and pulled even at 1-1 in the 12th minute on a goal by Thompson. Thompson found the back of the net for the third time this season, finishing a pass from fellow senior
Lauren Tiernan by putting it into the upper, right corner of the net.

The score remain tied at 1-1 after 45 minutes of play, with SLU holding a 10-7 shot advantage and 4-1 corner kick advantage. However, Evansville put four of its seven shots on goal, while St. Louis managed to place just two shots on frame.

The Billikens continued to fire away in the second half, taking 15 shots and forcing Busby to make four saves.Â

UE attempted five shots in the second stanza, with Thompson and sophomore
Kayla Smith each putting attempts on goal, but neither side could muster a goal, sending the match to overtime.

Evansville attempted all three shots taken in the first overtime period, while SLU recorded the only four attempts in the second 10-minute session.

The Aces will be back at Arad McCutchan Stadium for their next two matches, when they host Belmont Friday at 6 p.m. and Valparaiso Sunday at 1 p.m.
