BIRMINGHAM, AL – The University of Evansville Purple Aces softball team split day two with a 4-1 win against Belmont at 11:00 a.m. and a 2-1 loss against host Samford . The Aces put on a strong showing in Birmingham but couldn't pull off the day two sweep. UE will look to close out the Samford Tournament with a victory of EKU tomorrow. Evansville has already beaten EKU during the tournament on Friday afternoon.

Game one – Evansville vs Belmont 11:00 a.m. – (UE 4 – Belmont 1)
In game one in Birmingham, Ala. the Aces took on the Belmont Bruins in what would be UE's second victory of the season. The Aces opened the day up with freshman
Briana Combs (1-0) on the mound and she did not disappoint.

Combs pitched 6.0 innings with only 7 hits and 1 run against her. She had 5 strikeouts on the day on 25 batters faced.

The Aces offense was impressive yet again. Freshman
Chandra Parr on three plate appearances totaled a run, one walk and a hit and junior standout
Kayla Fortner had an RBI in third. At the end of the third inning the Aces were up 3-0 and didn't look back. Junior
Victoria Dellorto added to the lead as she scored one more run in the bottom of the fourth.

The Bruins didn't score the run against Combs until the top of the fifth inning on a single to left by Jessica Wilson. The run drove in Amanda Criscione who was on third thanks to a single of her own and a sac-bunt by Ashley Hammer. Other than the top of the fifth the Bruins couldn't get anything going against Combs.

After a scoreless sixth inning the Aces brought in sophomore
Annie Moore to pitch for Combs and Moore, with some help from the defense, struck out one and finished off the Bruins to complete the Aces win.

Game two – Samford vs Evansville 1:30 p.m.  – (Samford 2 – UE 1)
The Aces entered the game against host Samford on a two game winning streak and were determined to continue their success. Evansville's
Megan Gurski hit a triple to right field in the first inning and freshman
Susan Norris singled down the left field line to drive Gurski in, giving UE the early 1-0 lead.

Megan Gurski (0-1) took the mound for the Aces in the bottom of the first and came away with a clean inning.

The Aces couldn't get the offence moving during the top of the second and the Bulldogs took advantage. Samford's Cal Brister was walked and then Abby Adams hit a homerun down the leftfield line to give Samford the 2-1 lead going into the third.

Gurski and Samford's Mollie Hanson were able to hold both offenses in check during the rest of the game. The Aces looked to make a run in the top of the seventh but weren't able to connect on Hanson's pitches, leading to UE's first loss on the season.

The Aces are currently 2-1 on the season and will look to continue its success tomorrow morning against Eastern Kentucky University at 12:00 p.m. The Aces already have beaten EKU on day one of the Samford Tournament by a score of 4-3.
