DURHAM, N.C. – University of Evansville junior
Kyle Freeland was named to
Baseball America's Preseason All-America Second Team, as announced by the publication on Monday morning.

Freeland made 14 starts for Evansville last season, going 4-8 with a 4.34 ERA and 84 strikeouts in his 93.1 innings of work. The Denver, Colo., native issued just 26 walks during his sophomore campaign and tossed the Aces' lone complete-game shutout, when he allowed just four this in a win at Bradley.Â

Over the summer, Freeland emerged onto the national scene, after leading the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League in strikeouts. As a member of the Hyannis Harbor Hawks, the junior southpaw was named a Cape League All-Star, recorded 48 strikeouts in 40.0 innings and posted a sparkling 2.25 ERA. In his lone playoff start for the Harbor Hawks, Freeland allowed just three hits and struck out 10 without walking a batter in 7.0 innings on the mound.

 Freeland earned recognition from
Baseball America earlier this season, when he was named the No. 9 prospect on
Baseball America's list of Top 100 Collegiate Draft Prospects.

Evansville opens its season Friday, Feb. 14, when it travels to Lipscomb for a three-game set with the Bisons.
