Full Valley ReleaseEVANSVILLE, Ind. – Megan Gurski of the University of Evansville softball team was named the Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week for the first time this season.
The Purple Aces went 2-2 this week, beating Belmont and Northern Iowa and losing to Northern Iowa twice. Evansville is now 14-14 with a 2-6 conference record.
In the circle, the junior from Saskatchewan pitched a team leading 13.0 innings, struck out 12, allowed only five runs on 11 hits and pitched a complete game against the Panthers on Sunday.
Gurski had a 2.15 ERA on the weekend and a 2-1 record. In Gurski's two wins, she threw 10.0 innings, striking out nine, allowed zero runs and had a 0.00 ERA, leading to the Aces victories in both games.
The junior also had a tremendous week at the plate. Gurski hit .400, scored three runs on four hits, had two homeruns, two walks and five RBI.
Brooke Riemenschneider from Indiana State was the MVC Newcomer of the Week and Megan Stone from Indiana State was named the MVC Player of the Week.
Gurski and the Aces will host UT Martin at Cooper Stadium in a mid-week doubleheader on Wednesday, April 2 starting at 3:00 p.m.
