EVANSVILLE, Ind. – For the third time this season and the second time today, University of Evansville junior
Kyle Freeland earn All-American recognition, as the Denver, Colo., native was named a third team All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).

Freeland becomes just the second player in program history to earn All-American honors from three separate publications, joining Andy Benes, who was named the National Player of the Year and an All-American by Collegiate Baseball, Baseball America and the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) in 1988. Freeland was named to the Louisville Slugger All-America Third Team earlier this season and was selected as a first team All-American by Baseball America, before earning third-team status from the NCBWA.

The Denver, Colo., native earn Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year recognition after posting a 10-2 record and 1.90 ERA in his 14 starts this season. Freeland was also one of the nation's leaders in strikeouts and strikeout-to-walk ratio, as the southpaw recorded 128 strikeouts, while issuing just 13 walks and limiting opposing hitters to a .214 batting average.

Freeland was selected by the Colorado Rockies with the eight overall pick in last week's Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft and finished a perfect 6-0 with a 1.34 ERA and 68 strikeouts against just five walks in MVC play.
