EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Evansville junior
Kyle Freeland garnered yet another individual accolade Friday afternoon, as the Denver, Colo., native was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Midwest Region First Team.
With his selection to the all-region squad, Freeland will now advance to the ABCA All-America ballot, where he will have an opportunity to be the first player in program history to garner four all-America honors in the same season. Freeland finished his 2014 campaign with a 10-2 record, 1.90 ERA and 128 strikeouts against just 13 walks to earn spots on Baseball America's All-American First Team, the Louisville Slugger All-America Third Team and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) All-America Third Team.
The junior southpaw was selected by the Colorado Rockies with the eighth overall pick in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft and was named the Missouri Valley Conference's Pitcher of the Year, after going a perfect 6-0 with a 1.34 ERA in seven league starts.
