EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Several summer collegiate baseball leagues have opened their seasons and a few University of Evansville players are off to hot starts. Jonathan Ramon has appeared in only one game for the Sedalia Bombers of the M.I.N.K League, but Ramon made the most of his season debut by going 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. In addition, Sedalia teammate Shain Showers is hitting .400 for the Bombers, while Tyler Sullivan is hitting .375 with three runs and a pair of RBI for the Northern Ohio Baseball Club in the Tri-State League. On the mound, Alex Gould, Brent Jurceka and Matt Rodgers have earned wins for their respective clubs.
In the professional ranks, former Purple Aces Kyle Lloyd currently owns a 2-1 record and 2.70 ERA for the Fort Wayne Tin Caps (Class A - San Diego). Lloyd has appeared in 11 games for the Tin Caps, making five starts, after being promoted from the bullpen to the starting rotation on May 6. The 6-foot-4 righty has racked up 45 strikeouts against just 10 walks in 36.2 innings of work.
Eric Stamets, who missed over a month due to injury, made his return to the diamond for the Arkansas Travelers (Double-A - LA Angels) on June 3 by going 2-for-3. The Dublin, Ohio native is hitting .235 this season with a double, eight runs scored, four RBI and three stolen bases in 85 at-bats.
