Summer Baseball Update: July 9

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Jarod Perry and Boomer Synek continued to produce for their respectively summer clubs this week, as Perry (Sedalia Bombers - M.I.N.K League) raised his average to .304 on the season to go with seven doubles, 26 runs scored and 16 stolen bases, and Synek (Mankato MoonDogs - Northwoods League) has recorded at least one hit in 10 of his last 11 contests to lift his average to .318 with nine doubles, 30 runs scored and 29 walks.  On the mound, Jimmy Ward (Hamilton Joes - Great Lakes League) lowered his ERA to 3.17 on the season by allowing just two runs on five hits over 4.0 innings to earn his second victory of the year.

Kyle Freeland is expected to make his professional debut tonight for the Grand Junction Rockies (Rookie - Colorado), as the five-time All-American is slated to start and throw two innings against the Missoula Osprey.  Freeland's former battery mate, Kyle Pollock, lifted his average to .371 by going 4-for-4 with a double and three RBI last night for the Idaho Falls Chukars (Rookie - Kansas City).  Pollock has driven in six runs in his last five games and has tallied nine in 11 games this season.  Meanwhile, former closer Sam Johns was promoted to the Hagerstown Suns (Class A - Washington), where he made his debut for the Suns yesterday, tossing 1.1 scoreless innings of relief, registering a pair of strikeouts.  Johns has now pitched for three separate clubs in his five-game professional career.

Elsewhere in the professional ranks, Kyle Lloyd allowed five runs on seven hits over 4.2 innings in his latest start with the Fort Wayne TinCaps (Class A - San Diego), notching three strikeouts against a pair of walks.  On the season, Lloyd is 2-3 with 5.07 ERA and 74 strikeouts over 65.2 innings.  Former All-American shortstop Eric Stamets is hitting .206 with a home run, six RBI and seven stolen bases this season for the Arkansas Travelers (Double-A - Los Angeles Angels).

Notable:  Went 1-for-4 with a double, a walk and two runs scored in a 9-1 win at Licking County (July 6)…Legged out his first triple of the season, going 1-for-4 with a run scored in a 6-5 win vs. Licking County (July 4).
 
ALEX GOULD

Season:  Hitting:  .182, 2 H, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB; Pitching:  2-1, 3.15 ERA, 20.0 IP, 16 K, 10 BB (as of June 21)
Notable:  Went the distance on the mound on a 3-1 win vs. Reggie Smith Athletics, allowing just one run on five hits over 9.0 innings with five strikeouts (June 21)…Allowed four runs, two earned, on five in just 2.0 innings to take the loss in a start vs. the SoCal Hitmen.

Notable:  Scored a run, despite going 0-for-3 in a 5-1 in vs. Owensboro (July 6)…Finished 2-for-3 with a pair of singles in a 5-0 loss at Fulton (July 5)…Went 2-for-3, stole a base and drove in a pair of runs in a 3-0 win vs. Madisonville (July 3).
