EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville women's soccer team led visiting Saint Louis, 1-0, at halftime Sunday afternoon at Arad McCutchan Stadium, but the Billikens rallied for four second-half goals to defeat the Aces, 4-1.

Junior Holyn Marshall provided Evansville (1-1-0) with its only goal of the match midway through the first half and the Aces' defense held Saint Louis (1-1-0) without a single shot until late in the opening stanza.

UE attempted the first six shots of the contest and grabbed the lead, when Marshall finished a through ball from freshman Carlie Scales in the 21st minute.  Marshall made a run through a pair of Billiken defenders, before receiving the pass from Scales just inside the box and finishing the chance with a shot inside the left post.

Following the goal, SLU slowly began to control the game, as Saint Louis attempted the final six shots of the half without allowing Evansville another scoring opportunity, tying the first-half shot totals at 6-6, despite the Aces having a 1-0 lead.

In the second half, the Billikens found their offensive rhythm and tied the game on a goal by Danielle Tolmais in the 49th minute.  Molly Ream started the scoring chance with a hard run to the end line, before finding Tolmais unmarked inside the box.  Tolmais then put the ball in the back of the net with a hard shot to the near post.

The score would remain tied at 1-1, until the 70th minute, when Kirsten Clemens took advantage of a failed clearance by the Evansville defense and scored from close range, giving the Billikens a 2-1 advantage.

SLU would score two more goals over the next 10 minutes to cruise to the 4-1 victory, as Cristina Rodriguez upped Saint Louis' lead to 3-1 in the 71st minute and Lindsay Elking scored for the second time this season for the match's final tally in the 80th minute.

For the match, the Billikens outshot the Aces, 15-11, including a 9-5 advantage in the second half, and earned five corner kicks to UE's two.

Sophomore Emily Richardson led Evansville's offensive with three shots, putting two on goal.  Shaney Sakamoto attempted game-high four shots for Saint Louis.

Junior goalkeeper Simone Busby made five saves for the Aces, with three of them coming in the second half and sophomore Whitney Biggs collected a save in her eight minutes between the posts.

UE will continue its season-opening home stand next Friday, Aug. 29, when it hosts Bowling Green at 7 p.m.
