Aces to Travel to In-State Rivals IUPUI, Valparaiso

EVANSVILLE, Ind. –
The University of Evansville will complete a three-match road trip this weekend by traveling north to take on in-state rivals IUPUI and Valparaiso.  The Purple Aces are slated to play the Jaguars Friday at 6 p.m. in Indianapolis, before meeting the Crusaders Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. in Valparaiso, Ind.
 
Evansville (4-3-0) split a pair of matches last weekend with Butler and Western Kentucky, earning a 1-0 win over the Bulldogs at Arad McCutchan Stadium, before falling to the Lady Toppers, 2-0, in Bowling Green, Ky.
 
Junior Abby Springer provided UE with its goal in the win over Butler, scoring in the 33rd minute and junior goalkeeper Simone Busby tallied five saves to record her second solo shutout of the season.  In the loss at Western Kentucky, Evansville outshot WKU, 19-12, and was led by freshman Carlie Scales' four shots, including two shots on goal.
 
As a team, the Aces lead the Missouri Valley Conference with 114 shots and have put 42 on frame for a .368 shot on goal percentage.  In addition, UE has attempted 38 corner kicks to its opponents 24 and has outscored opponents, 3-1, in the first half.
 
Sophomore Bronwyn Boswell leads Evansville with six points on three goals, junior Holyn Marshall has scored twice and ranks second on the squad with four points and sophomore Noor Medlej has recorded a team-high three assists for three points.  Five other players have recorded multiple points for the Aces, including freshman Montana Portenier, who leads the team with seven shots on goal.  Between the posts, Busby owns a 1.08 goals against average with a .767 save percentage and 23 saves in her 584 minutes in goal.
 
IUPUI (2-4-1) snapped a three-match losing streak by posting a 3-2 win over Eastern Illinois last Sunday.  The Jaguars outshot the Panthers, 13-11, and were led by Krissy Kirkhoff's hat trick, who scored all three of IUPUI's goal in the second half.  Goalkeeper Nicole Kulovtiz stopped five shots in the win, with the only two goals against her coming on penalty kicks.
 
On the season, the Jaguars have been outscored, 11-6, and are allowing their opponents to attempt just under 15 shots per outing.  IUPUI has put 48.2 percent of its shots on frame and despite being outshot, 54-34, in the first half, have posted an even 49-49 margin over the final 45 minutes and overtime periods.
 
Krikhoff leads IUPUI with six points, with all six coming during her hat trick on Sunday, and has attempted a team-high 26 shots.  Alyssa Fox ranks second on the team with three points on a goal and an assist, while three other Jaguars have registered two points apiece.  Kulovitz is 1-4-0 in her five starts in goal, posting a 1.72 goals against average with 31 save sin 419 minutes.  Catherine Schmidt has logged 230 minutes between the posts and is 1-0-1 with a 1.17 goals against average and nine saves.
 
Valparaiso (1-1-3) is unbeaten in its last four contests, including a 3-0 win over Western Illinois in its last outing last Sunday.  The Crusaders got first-half goals from Rita Craven and Kat Anesini, before Vanesa Abad finished the scoring with a tally midway through the second stanza.  Valpo goalkeeper Sydney Galvez-Daley turned away eight shots to record the shutout.
 
The Crusaders will host IPFW Friday night, before hosting Evansville Sunday and rank third in the Horizon League in total shots with 83.  Valparaiso has posted an 83-50 shot advantage and has surrendered just three goals in five matches for a 0.60 goals against average.  In addition, Valpo has attempted 33 corner kicks to its opponents' 14 and owns a .373 shot on goal percentage.
 
Abad leads the Crusaders with four points on the season, while five other Valparaiso players have each recorded two points.  April Cronin leads the team with 20 shots and six shots on goal and Sarrah Ludwig ranks second on the squad with 13 shot attempts.  In goal, Galvez-Daley has allowed just three goals in 510 minutes for a 0.53 goals against average to go with 22 saves and three shutouts.
 
Evansville leads the all-time series with IUPUI, 3-2, and defeated the Jaguars, 1-0, last season at McCutchan Stadium.  Against Valparaiso, the Aces are, 8-2-1, all time and have won the last two meetings.  UE defeated the Crusaders, 1-0, in Valparaiso during the 2011 season and posted a 2-1 win last season in Evansville.
