EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Fresh off of a 1-0 shutout win over Southeast Missouri State, the University of Evansville women's soccer team is set for a pair of matches this weekend.
On Friday evening, the Purple Aces travel to Belmont for a 4 p.m. match before returning home on Sunday for an 11 a.m. tilt versus Tennessee Tech.
Defense has been the story for the Aces, who begin the weekend with a 5-3-2 mark. Evansville has not given up a goal in the last three matches, shutting out SEMO, Valparaiso and IUPUI.
Montana Portenier was the hero in victory on Wednesday over SEMO, scoring in the 80
th minute to give the Purple Aces a 1-0 win. The goal marked the first of her career.

Simone Busby kept her shutout streak alive, making three saves on the night en route to her third-consecutive blanking of an opponent. Portenier recorded two shots for UE in the match while sophomore
Colleen Dierkes also posted two.
Belmont has played seven matches, earning a 3-2-2 mark thus far. Last time out, the Bruins defeated UNC Asheville by a 2-1 final on Sunday. The win ended a 0-2-2 streak as the Bruins earned the first victory since August 24.
Belicia Mendiola leads the way for Belmont with four goals. She is the lone Bruin with more than one goal this year. Meg Howard has taken the most shots for Belmont with 22.
Sunday's opponent at McCutchan Stadium will be Tennessee Tech. The Golden Eagles begin the weekend with a 2-5 record as they begin play on Friday evening at Wright State. The Golden Eagles were 0-3 to start the year, but are 2-2 in their last four with wins over Georgia State and Chattanooga.
The Golden Eagles have recorded just four goals in seven matches this season with Abi Gearing scoring two of them. She has also registered six shots on goal.
