ST. LOUIS – With a pair of weekend wins under their belts, the University of Evansville women's soccer team added a pair of Missouri Valley Conference Weekly Awards to the list as the squad stands at 3-1 following two weeks of action.
Last week, the Purple Aces earned a 2-0 win over Bowling Green before finishing with a 1-0 decision over Eastern Kentucky. Following the shutout wins, UE was honored by the MVC as
Tatiana Pagan was named the Defensive Player of the Week while
Simone Busby garnered Goalkeeper of the Week honors.
Tatiana Pagan pushed forward from her defensive position to score the game-winning goal for Evansville in Friday night's win vs. Bowling Green, as the senior back delivered a low, driving shot inside the far post from 20 yards out after receiving a short corner kick service. In addition, Pagan helped the Purple Aces' defense post a pair of shutouts and limit opponents to a combined three shots on goal this weekend.
Simone Busby was part of both shutouts for Evansville this weekend, as she posted a solo shutout in Sunday's win over Eastern Kentucky and played all but nine minutes between the posts in Friday's blanking of Bowling Green. Busby made three saves in her 170 minutes of action on the week to lower her goals against average to 1.14 this season.
The women are in action tonight as they travel to Martin, Tenn. to take on UT-Martin at 6 p.m. The ladies open the weekend on Friday evening with a 5 p.m. home tilt versus Butler.
