Box Score Box Score (Printable)MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Evansville women's soccer team was defeated by UT Martin, 1-0, in its first road match of the 2014 season, as the Skyhawks took advantage of a late corner kick, scoring their only goal in the 83rd minute Wednesday night in Martin, Tenn.

In a match that featured a combined 37 shots, Evansville (3-2-0) managed to attempt 16 and hold off UT Martin's (4-0-0) 21-shot attack until the late stages of the contest. Purple Aces' goalkeeper
Simone Busby made seven saves in her attempt at a third-consecutive shutout, but a header by Saphyr Coombs-James proved to be the game-winner.

The Skyhawks were on the attack early and often, as UTM attempted 11 shots in the opening half and held UE to just four, but only one UT Martin shot would reach frame.

In the second half, Busby made a pair of saves in the opening minutes to keep the match scoreless and a shot by UT Martin's Ellie Myrick got over Busby but deflected off the crossbar in the 59th minute.

Evansville put four shots on goal, with all of them coming in the second half, including a pair by
Jordin Campbell and
Olivia Shafer in the 61st and 62nd minutes, respectively.

UT Martin's goal came with just under eight minutes remaining, when Dominika Conc served a corner kick into the box and found Coombs-James for the game-deciding header.

The Aces' final scoring chance would come in the 87th minute, when UE earned a corner kick, but the Skyhawk defense successfully turned it away to post the victory.

Montana Portenier led UE offensively with four shots and
Bronwyn Boswell added three. For UT Martin, Myrick led all players with seven shots and goalkeeper Mariah Kienke made four saves to earn the shutout.

Evansville will be back at Arad McCutchan Stadium for its next match against Butler on Friday, Sept. 5. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
