BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The University of Evansville women's soccer team suffered a 2-0 defeat at Western Kentucky Sunday afternoon in Bowling Green, Ky.  The Purple Aces outshot the Lady Toppers, 19-12, but WKU scored an early goal and took advantage of a late penalty kick to secure the win.

Evansville (4-3-0) had five players tally multiple shots on the day, but managed just five shots on goal and Western Kentucky (3-1-0) goalkeeper Allison Leone turned away all five, including three in the second half to post the shutout.

Hannah Chua gave WKU the early advantage by scoring in the ninth minute, floating a shot over the head Aces' goalkeeper Simone Busby on an attempt from the top of the 18-yard box.

UE responded by controlling possession for much of the remainder of the match and earned eight corner kicks in the second half, but the Western Kentucky defense stood firm.

The Lady Toppers added an insurance goal in the 88th minute, after being awarded a penalty kick, following an Evansville hand ball inside the box.  Iris Dunn converted on the penalty kick, doubling WKU's lead and making the final score 2-0.

Freshman Carlie Scales led the Aces with a game-high four shots and junior Kayla Smith attempted three.  In goal, Busby finished the day with one save.

UE will continue its three-match road swing Friday, Aug. 12, when it travels to Indianapolis for a 6 p.m. match with IUPUI.
