NORMAL, Ill. – Sophomore Genesis Miranda led the University of Evansville with 12 kills, but Illinois State had three girls in double figures as the Redbirds earned a 3-0 victory over the Purple Aces on Friday evening at Redbird Arena.
 
Miranda notched her 12 kills in 44 attempts for UE (7-14, 1-6 MVC).  Behind her was Stephanie Cerino and Montana Schafer, who posted four kills apiece.  Jelena Merseli led the Aces with 13 assists and Kim Deprez had a team-best 7 digs.  Leading Illinois State (14-6, 4-3 MVC) was Jaelyn Keene, who matched Miranda's game-best 12 kills.  Two others recorded 10 apiece.
 
Illinois State opened the night by taking a 25-21 decision in the opening set.  Genesis Miranda posted six kills in the first set to lead the Aces.  The score was tied at 4-4 early on before Illinois State scored four in a row to go up 8-4.  Their lead would reach as many as six at 11-5 before Evansville fought back.  Consecutive kills by Mildrelis Rodriguez and Miranda got the Aces within one at 20-19 before the Redbird finished off the set for a 25-21 win.
 
In the second set, it was close in the early going as the teams played to an 8-8 tie.  A kill by Stephanie Cerino knotted the score up at 8-8 before ISU would score four in a row as Ashley Rosch posted a pair of tallies in the run.  Their lead continued to grow as a 7-0 run later in the frame saw them finish off with a 25-14 win.
 
An 8-1 stretch was all Illinois State needed in the third game as they clinched the match with a 25-15 victory.
 
Tomorrow, UE continues its quick road trip with a visit to Terre Haute to face Indiana State.  The match begins at 7 p.m. ET and will be televised on ESPN3.
