EVANSVILLE, Ind. – An 11-kill night by Brittany Brown helped Loyola defeat the University of Evansville volleyball team by a 3-0 final on Friday evening at the Carson Center.
 
Loyola (13-3, 2-1 MVC) outhit the Purple Aces (6-11, 0-3 MVC) by a .238 to -0.52 final tally.  Evansville was led by Stephanie Cerino, who posted six kills.  Jelena Merseli played well, recording 15 assists while Kim Deprez had 15 digs to lead everyone.
 
Set one saw the Ramblers take a 3-0 lead before grabbing a 25-14 victory.  Evansville showed good fight during the set, tying it up at 3-3.  After falling behind 10-5, a Genesis Miranda service ace was part of a rally that saw the Aces get within one at 10-9.  Later, up 11-10, Loyola scored nine of the next ten points before taking the 25-14 win. 
 
The second frame saw another close race at the start.  Five ties led to a 7-7 score as Miranda notched another service ace.  At that point, the Ramblers took over, embarking on a 12-2 run to open up a 19-9 lead.  Evansville was able to make a run at the end.  Trailing 24-10, UE scored seven in a row before the Ramblers were able to put it away with a 25-17 triumph.
 
In the third game, the Aces took their first lead of the night at 4-3 on a Loyola error.  The Aces continued to lead at 6-5 on a Cerino kill before the Ramblers scored four in a row, going up 9-6.  The Aces cut the gap to one at 12-11 on a Merseli ace, but LU had the answer once again, finishing off the night by taking the third set, 25-15.
 
On Saturday, Bradley comes to the Carson Center for a 6 p.m. tilt against the Aces.  The first 100 people in attendance receive a free t-shirt.
