EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Genesis Miranda recorded nine kills while Stephanie Cerino finished with eight as the University of Evansville volleyball team fell to UNI by a 3-0 final on Friday evening at the Carson Center.
 
Northern Iowa (13-10, 7-3 MVC) hit .337 in the victory while holding Evansville (7-16, 1-8 MVC) to .010.  Miranda and Cerino paced the offense with their kill tallies while Kim Deprez notched 13 digs and Lorena Marquez led the way with 14 assists.
 
Amie Held led the Panthers with 11 kills while Heather Hook had 33 assists. 
 
UNI opened the day taking identical 25-13 wins in the first and second sets.  In the opening game, it was Evansville who had the quick start, taking a 4-1 lead as Stephanie Cerino had a pair of early kills.  The Panthers fought back to tie it up at 6-6.  Later, with the score tied at 8-8, Kendyl Sorge was serving and led UNI to 11 points in a row to go up 17-9.
 
Evansville scored four of the next five to cut the deficit to 18-13, but UNI came back to score the final seven points in a row to go up 1-0.
 
They duplicated the 25-13 feat in the second set, taking a commanding 18-6 lead.  Once again, Sorge did the damage while serving, tallying another seven points in a row in the win.
 
In the third game, the Aces put up an early fight.  Despite trailing 4-1 early on, UE reeled off four in a row as Marquez registered a service ace to help UE take a 5-4 lead.  The Panthers responded with a 6-1 run and scampered away to clinch the match with a 25-12 decision.
 
Tomorrow, the Aces will look to get back on track as they host Drake inside the Carson Center at 6 p.m.
