CHICAGO
– Senior Gabriela Roman registered her top tally at the University of Evansville as she had 10 kills as the Purple Aces fell to Loyola by a 3-1 final on Saturday evening.

Roman notched 10 kills in 27 attempts, joining Genesis Miranda (15 kills) as Evansville's (8-18, 2-10 MVC) top offensive players.  Mildrelis Rodriguez finished with six on the night.  Kim Deprez led the way with 15 digs while Rodriguez had 13.  Jelena Merseli led UE with 23 assists.  Leading Loyola was Maureen Carls with 14 kills while Amanda Cushen posted 12.

Up 3-2 in the first frame, Loyola made an early statement as they reeled off 10 of the next 11 points to go up by a score of 13-3.  Their lead would eventually reach 22-8 before the Ramblers finished off with a 25-13 win to grab the first game.

Trailing 9-2 in the second frame, it looked as if the Aces would drop into a 0-2 hole, but UE did not see it that way.  Evansville chipped away at the gap, posting seven of the next nine points to make it an 11-9 contest as Gabriela Roman had a kill in the run.  Loyola regrouped and went back up by five at 18-13, but a Miranda kill set UE on a 6-0 run as they took their first lead at 19-18.

After the Ramblers scored the next three to go back up by a 21-19 mark, Evansville made its presence known, reeling off the final six points to tie up the game at 1-1.  Roman had a pivotal role in the rally, scoring the points that would eventually tie it up at 21-21.  Mildrelis Rodriguez also notched a kill in the late rally.

Just as they did in the first two games, the Ramblers grabbed the early edge in the third set.  They went up by a score of 10-5 on a Maureen Carls kill.  Evansville was able to get within three on a few occasions and as late as 19-16, but Loyola had the late answer as they grabbed a 23-18 win.  Their momentum carried into the fourth game as they won by a 25-13 final.

Three more home matches remain for UE, beginning on Monday as Evansville hosts Missouri State beginning at 7 p.m. inside the Carson Center.
