EVANSVILLE, Ind.
– Genesis Miranda led the University of Evansville volleyball team with 10 kills, but it was Illinois State who tallied 50 kills on their way to a 3-0 victory over the Purple Aces on Saturday night at the Carson Center.

Miranda had the top tally for UE (8-22, 2-14 MVC) while Stephanie Cerino notched 8.  Jelena Merseli led the Aces with 20 assists while Kim Deprez checked in with 18 digs.  Leading Illinois State was Jaelyn Keene with 14 tallies while Ali Line notched 11.

"It has been a pleasure coaching our seniors throughout the years," Aces head coach Manolo Concepcion said.  "I am grateful for their contribution, especially their leadership and legacy that they leave behind for others to take over.  They have helped build a strong organizational culture that will produce long term results."

Illinois State scored the first two points of the opening set before Evansville fought back to take its first lead at 3-2 on an ISU service error.  After the Redbirds took a 7-5 advantage, the Aces retook the lead at 12-11.  A 6-1 run saw Illinois State take the lead for good and their advantage would eventually reach seven points at 24-17.  The Aces made it interesting down the stretch, scoring five in a row before the Redbirds clinched the set.

In the second game, Illinois State registered 19 kills on their way to a 19-8 win.  They opened up the frame on a 14-5 run before UE fought back to get within five at 21-16.  ISU scored the final three points it needed to grab a 25-18 victory.

The Redbirds opened up a 4-1 lead in the third frame before UE came back to tie it up at 8-8 on a Jelena Merseli kill.  On the ensuing point, Evansville took its first lead of the set on an ISU error.  UE held strong, up 10-9, but ISU roared back once again as a 12-6 run saw them take a 21-15 lead before hanging on for the 25-21 win.

Prior to the match, the five seniors for the Purple Aces were recognized for their contributions to the program.  The senior class included: Stephanie Cerino, Kim Deprez, Lorena Marquez, Tathianna Cordero and Gabriela Roman.

Next week, the Aces will complete the season with a road trip to Wichita State and Missouri State.
