Mobile, AL – The University of Evansville Women's Softball was defeated 10-2 by the 24
th ranked South Alabama Jaguars on Sunday afternoon to wrap up the Mardi Gras Invite. The Aces received runs from Abbi Fahse and Mariah Ferguson but were only able to get three hits in the contest. Hayli Tracy represented the Aces on the Mardi Gras Invite all tournament team.
The Aces jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead when Fahse reached base on a fielding error in the top of the first. Hayli Scott was hit by a pitch and then after a couple of wild pitches Fahse was able to score for the Aces. In the top of the second Mariah Ferguson was able to get on with a single. Ferguson then stole second, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt, and then scored on a scored on a sacrifice fly by Samantha Fleming making the score 2-0 in favor of the Aces.
South Alabama recovered quickly though with five runs in the bottom of the second. They added four more run in the bottom of the fourth making the score 9-2. They scored one more run in the bottom of the fifth to finish off the Aces by a final of 10-2.
The Aces are back in action next weekend when they head to Troy, AL for the Fire house Invite. Evansville will see action against the likes of Northern Illinois, Connecticut, and the host Troy.
