Aces Softball Fights But Drops First Two

EVANSVILLE, Ind. –
The University of Evansville Softball team opened its season against George Washington this morning.  The Aces were defeated 8-6 in the contest.  This afternoon the Aces were back in action when they took on UT Chattanooga.  In a hard fought battle the Aces came up short with a 5-3 loss.
 
The Aces were led against George Washington by Susan Norris who went 1-3 on the day with two RBIs.  Ashlee Kawall went 2-3 and added two runs.  Chandra Parr also added two runs of her own.  Amanda Blankenship pitched all seven inning while taking the loss.  Blankenship gave up nine hits while striking out two.  The Aces started fast jumping to a four run lead with two runs a piece in both first and second inning.  George Washington came back strong with 3 runs a piece in both the third and fourth inning.  George Washington closed it out with a run apiece in the final two innings to finish the Aces off.
 
The Aces game out strong against UT Chattanooga.  They jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead including a big two run double by Mariah Ferguson at the top of the second.  In the third inning, last year's homerun leader Chandra Parr made her presence known with her first homerun of the season.  Samantha Fleming was the starting pitcher for the match up and pitched four innings allowing three runs on six hits.  Amanda Blankenship saw her second action of the day.  Blankenship pitched two innings giving up two hits and two runs.
 
The Aces will continue tomorrow when they take on Appalachian State at 9:00 and Auburn at 3:30.  The Aces finish off the weekend on Sunday morning at 9:00 when they take on UAB.
