Auburn, AL. – The University of Evansville Women's softball team was back in action on Sunday morning. Evansville was able to defeat UAB by a score of 7-6. Evansville was led by Chandra Parr and Hayli Scott who both homered for the Aces.
The Aces jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead off of runs from Ashlee Kawall and Courtney Land. UAB responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the second. Evansville grabbed another run off Parr's homerun in the top of the third. UAB responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning. After Susan Norris reached on a walk Scott homered to give the Aces a two run fifth. In the bottom of the sixth, UAB grabbed two runs to tie the game. In the seventh the Aces grabbed two more runs from Parr and Land. UAB was able to grab a run in the bottom half of the inning but Evansville was able to close it out for a 7-6 win.
Amanda Blankenship was the starting pitcher for the contest. Blankenship went five innings while giving up four runs on six hits. Samantha Fleming came in to relieve Blankenship. Fleming threw two innings giving up two runs on five hits to earn the win.
The Aces are back in action next weekend when they head to Mobile, AL for the South Alabama Mardi Gras Tournament. Evansville will see action against Butler, Lipscomb, Oklahoma State, and the host South Alabama. The Aces will have their first home action on March 14
th when they take on conference foe Loyola.
