Drake Takes First Two From Aces Softball

Game One Box Score
Game Two Box Score

Evansville, IN–
The University of Evansville Women's Softball Team (7-23, 1-4 MVC) took on the Drake Bulldogs in a Saturday double header.  The Bulldogs were able to steal both victories away from the Aces.  Game one was a score of 6-5 and game two was 5-2.

In game one, Drake got things going first.  In the bottom of the first, Kelsey Wright of Drake was able to score off a ground out by Laura Brewer.  Evansville was able to get two runs in the top of the second when Abbi Fahse and Mickaela Fleming scored off a Courtney Land single.  In the bottom of the third, Drake was able to tack on three more runs off a Laura Brewer home run making the score 4-2 in favor of the Bulldogs.

Mariah Ferguson had a solo home run in the top of the fourth to make the score 4-3.  Rebekah Schmitt hit a two run home run of her own in the bottom of the fifth making the score 6-3.  The Aces attempted to rally in the top of the sixth when Fleming hit a two run home run but it would not be enough as the Aces fell to Drake 6-5.

The start of game two appeared to be a lot different from game one when the first 3 innings went completely scoreless.  Drake got things started in the bottom of the fourth scoring two runs off of a solo home run by Hayley Nybo and an RBI single from Kailee Smith scoring Maddie Hooyman.  The Aces tied things up in the top of the fifth when Ferguson homered again after a Morgan Lambert single making the score 2-2.  Drake finished off the Aces in the bottom of the fifth though scoring three more runs to make the final score of the game 5-2.

The Aces will finish the series tomorrow at noon.  Live video can be found at Godrakebulldogs.com.  The Aces will see their first home action next weekend when they take on Illinois State.
